A patch of dandelions

Not all plants and weeds are safe for guineas.

Some common plants are toxic to guineas and shouldn't be eaten, some of these include anything with a bulb like lily, crocus or hyacinth, houseplants, privet, ragwort, ivy, nightshade and foxglove.

Safe plants and weeds include grass, dandelions, sticky weed, yarrow, sow thistle, plantain, and fruit twigs like apple or pear.

Grass clippings must never be fed to a guinea. Lawn clippings start to ferment very quickly and if ingested can make guinea very poorly. Most lawnmowers have a box to collect the clippings as the grass is being cut but if yours doesn't be extra careful to not let guinea eat any. Grass can be picked by hand and given to the guineas or in warmer weather guineas can go in an enclosed predator proof run on the grass. Some guineas can be sensitive to fresh grass causing digestive issues especially if they've not had it before. Start off with small amounts and slowly build up.
