Cage Cleaning

Purpose of the Role

To assist with cleaning out of guinea pig cages to ensure the guinea pigs welfare.

What you could be doing
  • Working in a team with fellow volunteers
  • Removing dirty bedding and hay from cages, disinfecting cages and putting clean bedding and hay back in
  • Filling up hay twisties
  • Filling up hay and bedding buckets for other volunteers
  • Sweeping up
  • Cleaning food bowls and water bottles
  • Ensuring cages are securely fastened
  • Ensuring hygiene procedures are followed
  • Having cuddles with guinea pigs once trained on how to handle them
Skills or experience needed
  • A can-do attitude
  • Someone who likes guinea pigs
  • Able to work alongside other people
When and where

Based at Cavy Corner Guinea Sanctuary.

Session times:

  1. Thursdays 9.30am – 1.30pm
  2. Sundays 12.30pm - 5pm

Volunteers can choose their day and attend either the full session or part of it.

Support Offered

In depth induction and support and a buddy system for new volunteers.

Employers and public liability insurance in place.

Guinea Rota

Purpose of the Role

To assist with meeting the guinea pigs’ nutritional requirements to ensure their welfare.

What you could be doing
  • Emptying and cleaning water bottles and spouts
  • Filling up water bottles and putting them back on the correct cage
  • Sieving nuggets and filling up nugget bowls in cages
  • Checking hay twisties and filling up if needed
  • Ensuring cages are securely fastened
  • Sweeping up
  • Ensuring all hygiene procedures are followed
  • In addition to all of the above evening rota will also include chopping and preparing veg and handing it out to all the guineas
  • Having cuddles with guinea pigs once trained on how to handle them
Skills or experience needed
  • A can-do attitude
  • Someone who likes guinea pigs
  • Able to follow instructions and work independently
When and where

Based at Cavy Corner Guinea Sanctuary.

Session times:

  1. Morning rota is anytime from 9.30am onwards
  2. Evening rota is anytime from 4pm onwards

Volunteers can choose their day and attend either the full session or part of it.
